On February 15th Mrs. Corie Gaylord, the Director of Student Academic Counseling Services, and Mrs. Heather Pino-Beattie, a past school counselor and current Vice Principal at MHS, gave a presentation on “Soft Skills for Success” as part of our Parent Education Series. This presentation was appropriate for parents of children of all ages.
In our increasingly complex and competitive society, what skills do our children need to be successful? They certainly need to master mathematical concepts, have strong reading and writing skills, and be able to effectively use technology, but that is only the tip of the iceberg! Increasingly, employers are looking for people who have strengths in soft skills... the social and emotional skills that are necessary in developing communication, creativity, and critical thinking. The focus of this presentation is how to help your children develop the skills they need to succeed the society of the future.
